SEGUIN, Texas-- Texas Lutheran Volleyball split a pair of matches Friday to kick off the 2017 season at the Pacific Coast Classic in Claremont, Calif.

TLU fell to Chapman (Calif.) in four games 19-25, 25-15, 25-28, 25-18.The Bulldogs defeated Union College (N.Y.) in a three-game sweep 25-17, 25-18, 25-21.

In the loss to CU, Makenzie Griffin led the Bulldogs with 19 kills , and freshmen Hannah Mikelonis delivered 11 kills. Freshmen setter Kionasina Nu'u registered 28 assists, and Jaci Chambers added 15. Mathis Popelsky picked up 11 digs and served five aces. 

In the win over Union, Griffin tallied 11 kills, and Savannah Kruse added eight along with two blocks. Nu'u served two aces and had 11 assists. Chambers picked up 16 digs for the Bulldogs.

TLU is 1-1 overall, The Bulldogs face Pomona-Pitzer and the University of the Redlands tomorrow in their final two matches of the tournament.
