SEGUIN, Texas -- Friday afternoon at Texas Lutheran's Gustafson Field, TLU Women's Soccer opened its 2017 season with a 3-1 loss to the LeTourneau YellowJackets.

The YellowJackets took an early lead with a quick shot to the upper right corner in the first 17 seconds of the match.

LETU went on the score another goal in the first half and led the Bulldogs 2-0 at the half.

LETU scored on a high shot over the goalie to start off the second half.

TLU cut the lead to 3-1 as Jaclyn Smolik scored for the Bulldogs in the last two minutes of the match.

Bulldog goalie Stephanie Barrientos turned away seven total shots on goal and had five saves in the first 45 minutes of play.

Smolik and Sara Gribbon led the squad in total shots. Each player had three shots total with two on goal.

The Bulldogs take on the East Texas Baptist Tigers at 1 p.m. Sunday at Gustafson Field.
