SHREVEPORT, La. -- Centenary College won both ends of Saturday's doubleheader against Texas Lutheran and regained the lead in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference regular season baseball championship race with three league games remaining. Centenary won 4-2 and 7-4 at Shehee Stadium.
Centenary moved one game ahead of TLU by winning two of the three games in the series. TLU took the series opener 11-0 on Friday night.
Centenary, ranked seventh and 10th in two major NCAA DIII polls, improved to 26-6 overall and to 12-3 in the SCAC.
TLU dropped to 20-12 overall and to 11-4 in the SCAC.
Centenary took the early lead in both games, and the Bulldogs never had the lead in either contest.
TLU closed within a run in the fifth inning of game one, but Centenary's Matthew Devillieri kept the Bulldogs at bay and produced his ninth victory against no losses.
Spencer Brandt and
Rayce Gatlin each drove in runs for TLU in game one.
In game two, TLU rallied from a 3-0 deficit to tie the game at 3-3 in the sixth, but Centenary countered with a run in the sixth, another in the seventh and two more in the eighth.
In the late game,
Matthew Lemon collected three hits and scored two runs, and
Tyler Cauley had a pair of hits and two RBI.
