Bulldogs move into 1st place in SCAC standings with 11-0 road win



SHREVEPORT, La. -- Texas Lutheran Baseball took over sole first place in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference standings with an 11-0 run-rule win Friday night against No. 7/10 ranked Centenary College (La.).

At Centenary's Shehee Stadium, the Bulldogs broke open a 4-0 ball game with three runs in the seventh and four more in the eighth.

TLU improved to 20-10 overall and to 11-2 in the SCAC. Centenary dropped to 24-6 overall and to 10-3 in the SCAC.

The Bulldogs collected 17 total hits against the Gents.

Eric Rabinowitz and Riley Schaefer each hit three-run home runs for TLU. Rabinowitz hit his in the seventh, and Schaefer added his homer in the eighth.

Rabinowitz, TLU's junior shortstop, went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI. Schaefer was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI.

Matthew Lemon added three hits, two runs and an RBI, and Colby Schrade went 3-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI - both on a third-inning double that gave TLU the early 2-0 lead.

Bulldog sophomore Nathan Malinovsky pitched the eight-inning shutout. He scattered five hits, struck out three and walked one. He improved to 5-3.

Malinovsky has won his last four starts and has allowed only one earned run in his last 17 innings of work.

TLU and Centenary play two more games of the series in Shreveport. The doubleheader Saturday starts at 1 p.m. at Shehee Stadium.
