GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas -- At AirHogs Stadium, Texas Lutheran Baseball started the 2017 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament with an 11-2 loss to the Trinity Tigers.
TLU scored the game's first run, in the second inning, but Trinity jumped to a 5-1 lead after four innings and capped off the victory with a five-run ninth.
The Tigers registered 16 total hits and held TLU to the two runs on nine hits.
The Bulldogs fell to 21-18 overall. Trinity improved to 26-14 overall.
TLU now faces Southwestern at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in an elimination game. Centenary and Trinity play in the noon winner's bracket game.
In the loss to the Tigers, TLU players
Ben Marvin,
Spencer Brandt and
Rayce Gatlin each had a pair of hits. Gatlin gave TLU the early lead with an RBI single in the second.
Colby Schrade had TLU's other RBI.
Scott Walters produced four hits for the Tigers, and the top four batters in the Trinity lineup combined for 10 hits.
