GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas -- Texas Lutheran's 2017 baseball season came to a close Saturday in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Championship with a 4-3 loss to Southwestern in an elimination game at AirHogs Stadium.
TLU rallied for a pair of runs in the ninth against the Pirates and had the tying run at third with the winning run at home plate. After TLU started the ninth with a single from
Matthew Lemon, a single from
Riley Schaefer and a double from
Keaton Boysen, Southwestern pitching limited TLU to a sacrifice fly and then a 6-3 groundout and a strikeout to end the game.
TLU ends the year with an overall record ot 21-10. The Bulldogs finished second in the SCAC regular-season standings.
TLU was held to five hits Saturday. Boysen, starting at designated hitter, had two of the four. He also drove in a run with the double in the ninth. He scored a run in the fifth after doubling to leadoff the inning.
Dylan Drgac pitched well in the loss. The junior right-hander went 8-1/3 innings and allowed just one earned run. Two Bulldog errors led to three unearned runs.
Southwestern improved to 21-20 overall and advanced to a second tournament elimination game later Saturday.
