SHREVEPORT, La. -- Nineteenth-ranked Texas Lutheran kept its unbeaten streak in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and moved its overall win streak to 24 with 3-2 and 9-4 victories Friday at Centenary College.
TLU moved its overall record to 24-4 and its conference mark to 12-0.
Centenary dropped to 10-14 overall and to 7-3 in the SCAC.
TLU rallied in the early game with three runs over the final two innings - one in the sixth and two in the seventh - to erase 1-0 and 2-1 deficits.
In the seventh, the Bulldogs scored on a sacrifice bunt RBI from
Cassie Roche that scored
Lainey Hebert. With a throwing error on the play,
Kyla Lockley also came around to score.
Maitlin Raycroft appeared in relief in the sixth and had her record run of 65 scoreless innings snapped as The Ladies scored in the sixth. Raycroft and the Bulldogs each rebounded in the seventh. Raycroft struck out the side in the seventh. The first two batters were K'd looking, and the last struck out swinging.
Raycroft improved to 12-2 with the first-game victory.
In the second game, Raycroft took a no-hitter into the fifth. A single to lead-off the fifth snapped Raycroft's bid for a seventh no-hitter of the season.
By the time Centenary picked up its first hit against Raycroft, TLU already held a 6-1 lead. Centenary scored in the fourth without a hit - using a walk, a steal and two wild pitches.
Roche put the Bulldogs on the board early in the late game. She belted an RBI double in the first and then homered down the left-field line in the third.
TLU broke the game open in the sixth with a three-run home run from
Nicole Snow.
With TLU leading 9-1, Raycroft departed at the start of the Centenary sixth, but she returned to the game after Centenary scored three runs against TLU relief pitching. Raycroft closed out the game in the seventh by striking out a pair. She improved to 13-2 overall.
Raycroft struck out 15 in 8-2/3 innings of total work Friday.
Kaymee Gooden scored three runs and had two hits in the late game. Lockley had two hits, reached base three times and scored a run in the early game.
TLU and Centenary play a second SCAC doubleheader in Shreveport on Saturday. First pitch for the first game is set for noon.
