Bulldogs win conference series with Saturday split v Austin

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran's bid for a second consecutive Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference three-game series sweep ended in the early game Saturday with the Bulldogs falling 16-14 to Austin College.

At TLU's Katt-Isbel Field, the Bulldogs bounced back in the second game with a 9-4 victory as Dylan Drgac improved to 5-0 overall and TLU pushed its overall team mark to 16-9 and its SCAC record to 7-2.

Austin College now sits at 8-19 overall and at 3-6 in the SCAC.

TLU put up six runs in the sixth inning of game two to wipe away what had been a three-run deficit in the fifth. Rayce Gatlin singled with the bases loaded to drive in two runs, and an error on the play by the center fielder allowed Andrew Whitten and Rayce Gatlin to come around to score.

The Bulldogs added the fifth and sixth runs in the inning with RBI from Eric Rabinowitz and Keaton Boysen.

Drgac pitched 6-1/3 innings for the win. Drgac struck out five, walked one and worked around four wild pitches. Ethan Mueller tossed the final 2-2/3 innings for TLU and held the Kangaroos to one hit.

In the early game, Boysen went 1-for-2, walked four times and scored five runs. Matthew Lemon drove in a pair, and Ben Marvin went 4-for-5 and drove in three. Gatlin also had a pair of RBI.
