BELTON, Texas -- Texas Lutheran junior right-hander
Maitlin Raycroft (Spring/Klein) tossed her fifth no-hitter of the 2017 season with a perfect game Tuesday night in the 11-0 win over the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
Raycroft tied the NCAA Division III single-season record for no-hitters. She now shares the NCAA DIII mark with Allyson Fournier of Tufts (2015) and Rachel Johnson of Salisbury (2014). Raycroft has recorded the five no-hitters in 10 starts for TLU this season.
In her last seven starts, Raycroft has tossed five no-hitters (including tonight's perfect game) and a complete-game two-hitter. In the other start, she allowed only one hit in a combined TLU three-hitter Saturday against Indiana Tech.
Raycroft has not allowed a run in 40 consecutive innings. In those 40 innings, she has allowed only three hits. She has lowered her season ERA to 1.64, and she has struck out 88 batters in 59-2/3 innings of work.
Tuesday at UMHB's Dee Dillon Field, the 11-0 win for TLU came in five innings due to the eight-run rule. The perfect game completed a doubleheader sweep of UMHB. TLU took the first game 11-3 in six innings.
Raycroft (8-2) won her eighth straight decision, and TLU raised its overall win streak to 16 games. The Bulldogs improved to 16-4 overall. UMHB dropped to 14-11 overall.
Freshman catcher
Alyssa Cantu drove in five runs and went 3-for-3 in the early game.
Nicole Snow went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Amanda Lochte improved to 6-1 overall with the first-game victory. Lochte struck out three and allowed three earned runs.
Lauren Myers tossed two hitless innings in relief.
In the late game, Snow again went 2-for-3. The senior designated player drove in two and scored twice.
Courtney Mica and
Kirsten Whiteside each tripled, and Whiteside and
Lainey Hebert each drove in two. Hebert went 3-for-3 with three runs scored.
TLU returns to Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play this weekend with road games against Austin College. The SCAC four-game series starts Friday at 6 p.m. in Sherman, Texas. Saturday's doubleheader begins at noon, also in Sherman.
