SHERMAN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Softball pushed it overall win streak to 18 games with a pair of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference wins Saturday over Austin College. TLU won 19-0 (in five innings) and 6-0 at Sherman's Old Settlers Park.
Maitlin Raycroft finished one Austin College hit shy of her sixth no-hitter of the season. In the late game, she allowed a one-out single in the fourth and finished with a one-hit shutout that included 16 strikeouts.
Raycroft (9-2) won her ninth consecutive decision. The junior right-hander from Spring (Klein) stretched her scoreless inning streak to 47 innings. Her 16 strikeouts Saturday were two Ks from her school-record 18 - set on Feb. 19 against Huntingdon (Alab.).
In her last eight starts, Raycroft has tossed five no-hitters (including a perfect game), a two-hitter and two one-hitters. She has struck out 104 batters overall in 66-2/3 innings this season.
TLU improved to 18-4 overall and to 8-0 in the SCAC with the two victories. Austin College dropped to 4-20, 1-9.
In the early game,
Kaymee Gooden and
Brayden Pinckard each homered. Gooden hit a solo home run in the fourth, and Pinckard hit a three-run homer in the fifth.
Gooden went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and 5 RBI. Pinckard finished 2-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBI.
Madisyn Cates and
Kirsten Whiteside each had two RBI as well.
Amanda Lochte registered the complete-game victory. The Fredericksburg native improved to 7-1 overall. She allowed just three hits and struck out seven. She did not walk a batter.
In the late game,
Nicole Snow hit a bases-loaded triple in the seventh. TLU scored five runs in the seventh to break open 1-0 game.
Snow went 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI.
Cassie Roche had two hits and scored twice.
TLU and Austin play a Sunday doubleheader in Sherman at Old Settlers Park. First pitch for the first game is set for noon.
