SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran junior right-hander
Maitlin Raycroft (Spring/Klein) added to her school-record number of no-hitters by tossing her fourth no-hitter of the 2017 season in an 8-0 win Friday afternoon against Indiana Tech.
The NCAA Division III record for no-hitters in a season is five. Raycroft is now one no-hitter shy of the all-time mark for single-season no-hitters.
Raycroft's latest no-hitter was the 18th all-time no-hitter in TLU Softball history.
The Bulldogs took both ends of the doubleheader Friday with Indiana Tech. TLU improved to 12-4 overall and moved its win streak to 12 games with the 6-1 and 8-0 victories at Ed Kruse Stadium - Morck Softball Field.
Raycroft has won her last six starts and has thrown no-hitters in four of her last five starts. She threw a pair of two-hitters in her two other starts.
Friday against Indiana Tech, Raycroft finished a walk shy of a perfect game. She walked the lead-off batter in the fifth. Raycroft struck out the first six batters for Indiana Tech, and she finished the game with nine strikeouts.
Raycroft (6-2) pushed her scoreless inning streak to 30 innings. She has struck out 75 batters in 49-2/3 innings so far this season.
Kaymee Gooden (Mart/Mart) homered to lead-off the Bulldogs' five-run sixth inning.
Brayden Pinckard (Buda/Hays) drove in two runs, and
Kyla Lockley (Wharton/Boling) scored three times and had three hits.
In the early game,
Amanda Lochte (Fredericksburg/Fredericksburg) tossed six innings of two-hit softball. She moved her season record to 5-1. She struck out six and walked one.
Kelsie McEachern (Atascocita/Huffman) had two hits and drove in two, and Lockley posted two hits, two stolen bases and a runs scored.
TLU and Indiana Tech play a Saturday doubleheader, set for a noon start at Ed Kruse Stadium.
