Texas Lutheran holds off LeTourneau 66-61 for non-conference win


KERRVILLE, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Women's Basketball won for the third time in its last four games with a 66-61 non-conference win Friday over LeTourneau University.

At the Schreiner University SCAC/ASC Classic in the Stephens Family Arena, the Bulldogs turned a three-point deficit with 5:46 to play into a five-point win.

The Bulldogs, out of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, improved to 4-6 overall. LeTourneau, from the American Southwest Conference, dropped to 2-8.

Presley Stephens hit a key three-pointer to pull TLU even, at 55-55 with 5:39 to play. 

Cami Davis then scored on a pair of free throws and a layup to put the Bulldogs up four with 2:55 remaining.

Davis scored seven straight for TLU from the 4:05 mark to 1:07 remaining. She scored 13 points for the game and added three assists, five rebounds, a block and a steal.

With TLU clinging to a one-point lead with under 15 seconds to play, the Bulldogs' Katie Pesek hit a running jumper and then grabbed a loose defensive rebound with five seconds to play, preserving a three-point advantage.

Abby Hroch made two free throws with a second to play to give TLU its final winning margin.

Madyson Garcia hit four three-pointers and scored 12 for the Bulldogs. Stephens also added 12. Stephens contributed five rebounds, two assists and two blocks.

Dominique Campos came off the TLU bench to score 10. She hit a pair of three-pointers.

The Bulldogs notched the victory despite giving up 29 offensive rebounds. LeTourneau's Savannah Cummings and Sha'Donnaver Young had eight and seven offensive rebounds, respectively.

LeTourneau out-rebounded TLU 52 to 37.

The Bulldogs return to Stephens Family Arena on Saturday for a 2 p.m. non-conference game with East Texas Baptist University.
