LeTourneau rallies for 100-97 win over Texas Lutheran


KERRVILLE, Texas -- LeTourneau University erased a 24-point deficit and erupted for 65 points in the second half in a 100-97 win Friday over Texas Lutheran.

With the victory at the Schreiner University SCAC/ASC Classic, LeTourneau improved to 8-2 overall. The YellowJackets are members of the American Southwest Conference.

TLU dropped to 4-6 overall. The Bulldogs play in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

TLU led 66-42 in the second half with a jumper from Sebastian Andrade at the 16:31 mark. The Bulldogs' lead went back to 24, at 70-46, with a layup from Jacob Kouremetis with 15:05 to play.

LeTourneau cut the TLU lead down to nine with 10:57 remaining after a pair of free throws from Justin Moore.

Ninety seconds later, LeTourneau took its first lead of the second half with a Nate West three-pointer.

With the YellowJackets in front 100-97 with six seconds to play, the Bulldogs went the length of the floor and attempted a three-pointer (from Nathan Josephs) with two seconds on the clock. The ball bounced high off the rim as the horn sounded.

LeTourneau shot 59.5 percent from the field in the second half. The YellowJackets also made six of 10 three-point attempts in the final 20 minutes.

West scored 20 second-half points for LeTourneau, and Moore added 17 in the final frame. West scored 24 total points, and Caylab Herrera and Alex Colhoff each had 19.

Alex Cage led TLU with 23 points. The junior guard went 8-for-13 from the field and 2-of-4 from the three-point line. He also had four assists and four rebounds.

Jackson Willoughby (19), Sebastian Andrade (15), Jacob Kouremetis (14) and Josephs (13) also hit double-figures for the Bulldogs.

Andrade led TLU with seven rebounds. Willoughby grabbed six.

The Bulldogs play again Saturday in the SCAC/ASC Classic in Kerrville. The Bulldogs face East Texas Baptist at noon in Schreiner's Stephens Family Arena.
