Bulldogs move into SCAC semifinal after 3-0 victory v Austin College


SHREVEPORT, La. -- Texas Lutheran Women's Soccer ran past Austin College 3-0 Friday afternoon to advance to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Championship semifinal for the fifth consecutive season.

At Centenary College's Mayo Field, the Bulldogs picked up a Kennedy Jobe (Austin/McNeil) goal in the 10th minute of the first half and added second-half goals from Aubrie Wells (Houston/Lutheran South Academy) and Bryn Schleyer (Kingwood/Kingwood Park).

Wells scored in the 68th minute, and Schleyer notched a goal in the 89th minute. The Jobe and Wells goals were unassisted. Meagan Campbell (Bulverde/Smithson Valley) was credited with an assist on the Schleyer goal.

Jobe, Wells and Schleyer each scored their first goals of the 2017 season.

The Bulldogs improved to 7-8-2 overall. Austin College's season ends with an overall record of 4-14-1.

TLU defeated Austin College in the SCAC quarterfinal for a second consecutive year.

TLU will face No. 2 seed Schreiner University at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Mayo Field. Live video and live stats links can be found on tlubulldogs.com. The TLU-Schreiner semifinal winner faces the Trinity-Centenary semifinal winner in the SCAC Championship match Sunday. That match is set for a 1 p.m. kickoff.

In Friday's win over Austin College, TLU out-shot Austin College 15-10 and held a 10-3 edge in shots on goal.

Bulldog keeper Stephanie Barrientos (Mission/Sharyland Pioneer) made three saves and notched her fifth shutout of the season. Barrientos improved to 7-6-2 in goal.

Maya Erwin made seven saves for the Kangaroos.
