TLU Women's Basketball drops season-opener 91-73 at UMHB



BELTON, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Women's Basketball dropped its official season-opener Thursday night in a 91-73 non-conference loss to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

At UMHB's Mayborn Campus Center, The Cru out-scored TLU by 17 over a stretch of the fourth quarter as the UMHB lead grew to 23. The Bulldogs trailed by just six, 64-58 with 9:02 to play, after a Cami Davis (Marion/Marion/UT Tyler) jumper.

UMHB improved to 1-0 overall. TLU dropped to 0-1.

The junior transfer Davis, playing in her first game as a Bulldog, scored a career-high 30 points. Davis made nine of her 16 field goal attempts and five of her nine three-point shots. She added five rebounds and two assists.

UMHB countered with Hannah Holt's 35 points, three rebounds and five steals. Holt hit 13 of her 21 shot attempts and added a pair of threes.

TLU turned the ball over 25 times, and UMHB converted those TLU turnovers into 32 points.

The Cru shot 43.2 percent from the field for the game. TLU made 40.4 percent. The Bulldogs hit seven of 22 three-point attempts. UMHB was 10-for-32 from the arc.

Bulldog sophomore Kasey Hairell (Hallettsville/Hallettsville) contributed 15 points and 12 rebounds. She added four assists and two steals.

Freshman forward Abby Hroch (Port Lavaca/Calhoun) put up 10 points and nine rebounds in her collegiate debut. Hroch had seven defensive boards.

Bulldog point guard Tara Molina (San Antonio/Johnson) dished out five assists, had four steals, and scored five points.

UMHB led TLU 33-31 at the half. The Cru out-scored the Bulldogs 31-22 in the third and 27-20 in the fourth.

The Bulldogs return to Seguin for their next contest. TLU hosts Sul Ross State at 4 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Gymnasium.
