Morton's two goals key in TLU Women's Soccer win v. Centenary

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran sophomore Katie Morton scored two goals - the eventual match-winner and then the match-clincher - as the Bulldogs registered a 3-1 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory Friday evening against Centenary.

At TLU's Gustafson Field, Morton gave TLU a 2-0 lead in the 21st minute with an assist from Leslie Flores.

After Centenary pulled within a goal, with a Pamela Fonseca shot in the 61st minute, Morton sealed the Bulldog win with a goal with six seconds to play in the match. Sara Gribbon assisted on the second Morton goal.

The goals for Morton were her second and third of the year.

The victory moved TLU to 4-6-1 overall and to 4-2-1 in the SCAC.

Centenary dropped to 3-6-1 overall and to 2-4-1 in the SCAC.

Raquel Morris put TLU in front early with a goal in the seventh minute. Morris took a header from Jaclyn Smolik and beat the keeper to the left-center of the net.

TLU and Centenary each had 18 total shots. The Bulldogs had 10 shots on goal to Centenary's eight.

Bulldog keeper Stephanie Barrientos made seven saves in all 90 minutes in goal.

The Bulldogs return to action Sunday with a noon home conference match against Austin College.
