SHREVEPORT, La. -- Texas Lutheran Volleyball grabbed a pair of wins Saturday afternoon over University of Dallas and Austin College to move to 15-11 overall and 7-5 in SCAC play.
In the early contest against Dallas, the Bulldogs cruised to a 25-23, 25-17, 25-15 win. Hitting an impressive .323, sophomore
Makenzie Griffin led the attack with 15 kills and only five errors.
Bryten Mitchan added 10 kills.
As a team, TLU picked up 69 digs with sophomore libero
Jaci Chambers registering 30. Chambers and senior
Mathis Popelsky tallied two serving aces, respectively.
Freshmen setters
Kelly Jurden and
Kionasina Nu'u posted 22 and 15 assists, respectively, for the match.
In the later match against the 'Roos, the Bulldogs cranked things up hitting an average .206 in the four set victory. AC took the first set, but TLU came back to win in four 19-25, 25-19, 25-17, 25-21.
In set one, AC registered a blistering .409 hitting percentage. TLU rallied and held the 'Roos to .028, .044, and .000 in the remaining three sets.
Griffin and
Hannah Mikelonis led the Bulldogs in kills with 18 and 12, respectively. Mitchan contributed 10 kills to go with two solo blocks and two block assists.
Chambers picked up 23 digs and a serving ace while Popelsky tallied 17 digs to go with an impressive three aces.
Remy Corbin, Nu'u, and Jurden each contributed aces during the match, helping the Bulldogs collect eight total as team.
Play continues tomorrow as day two of the SCAC Cross-Divisional unfolds. TLU takes on Colorado College at 10 a.m. and will conclude conference play against Centenary College at 4 p.m.
