SHREVEPORT, La. -- Texas Lutheran Bulldog volleyball team won three out of four matches over the weekend after falling to No. 2 Colorado College and defeating Centenary College on Sunday.
The split moved TLU's record to 16-12 on the year and 8-6 n SCAC play.
As conference play wraps up for the season, TLU clinched their spot in the SCAC conference tournament.
The first match of the day, the Bulldogs fell in three 25-14, 25-18, 25-22 to No. 2 Colorado College.
TLU hit a .133 in that one, while the Tigers hit . 316. Individually, Hannah Mikelonis led the squad in kills with 10, hitting an impressive .333.
Jaci Chambers covered the back court, recording 19 digs and two serving aces for the Bulldogs. Kelly Jurden served the only other ace for the match to go with 14 assists and eight digs.
The weekend was concluded with a thrilling five set 23-25, 25-18, 25-21, 24-26, 15-9 victory over Centenary College.
Centenary took set one out hitting a .280 to TLU's .196. The Bulldogs rallied back and won the next two. It looked like TLU was on the verge of of winning in the fourth set, but Centenary battled back and took the match, winning by two points.
TLU came out strong in the final frame, hitting a .310 to the Ladies .130 and maintaining the lead throughout the set.
Texas Lutheran was led in that match by Savannah Kruse and Makenzie Griffin tallying 15 kills, respectively. Kruse registered a solo block along with 3 block assists.
Cailey Young contributed 11 kills, two serving aces, and a solo block. Bryten Mitchan added 10 kills, a solo block, and a block assist.
Kionasina Nu'u racked up 32 assists and was second in digs with 23. Chambers led, once again, in digs with 24.
The Bulldogs head to the non-conference Tiger Invitational Tournament this weekend in San Antonio, Texas to face University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, University of Texas at Dallas, and Concordia.
