COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Ryan Young's three-pointer with just less than three seconds to play lifted the Colorado College Tigers to an 83-80 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win over Texas Lutheran, Friday night at Reid Arena.
After
Zach Behr's driving layup tied the game at 80 with 10 seconds to play, Young shot the game-winner from the center of the three-point line.
The Bulldogs trailed by eight with 1:21 to play but rallied behind a steal, a five-second violation and five quick points from
Alex Cage. Behr had four points in the late TLU comeback.
Jordan Kouremetis's last-gasp three-point attempt from mid-court did not court draw iron, and Colorado College escaped with the conference victory. The Tigers improved to 2-0 in league play and to 3-9 overall.
TLU, the two-time defending SCAC champion, dropped its conference opener and now stands at 6-6 overall. TLU and Colorado College met in the 2016 SCAC Championship game, with TLU winning 80-77.
Young scored 20 for the Tigers and added seven rebounds. He also dished out four assists.
Eric Houska led the Tigers with 23 points. He added seven assists and four rebounds. John Hatch contributed 17 points and nine rebounds for the Tigers.
Sterling Holmes paced the Bulldogs with 19 points, five assists, two rebounds and two steals.
Behr added 18 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals for TLU.
TLU plays a second SCAC game this weekend with a Sunday matchup against University of Dallas. Tip-off in Irving, Texas is set for 2 p.m. TLU will have live video and live stats from tlubulldogs.com.
