SHREVEPORT, La. -- Texas Lutheran Women's Basketball encountered a second straight road overtime test in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and came away with a second consecutive win in those circumstances with a 76-68 defeat of Centenary College (La.) on Sunday afternoon.
TLU improved to 14-4 overall and to 6-1 in the SCAC. Centenary saw its record fall to 5-13 overall and to 1-6 in the SCAC.
After prevailing 75-68 in overtime on Friday against then-first place team Austin College, conference co-leader TLU withstood a strong challenge from The Ladies, who entered today's game in a three-way tie for sixth in the SCAC.
The Bulldogs held Centenary scoreless on their final offensive possession in regulation, which took up the last 10 seconds in regular play.
In the overtime, TLU out-scored Centenary 12-4 behind senior forward
Kristen Lye's six points. Lye's six in the overtime were part of an individual performance that included 20 points, 15 rebounds, three assists and two blocks.
Lye made six of her 18 shot attempts and all eight of her free throw attempts. Of her 15 total rebounds, seven came on the offensive glass.
Fellow senior forward
Savannah Hight delivered 17 points, seven steals and four assists.
Bailey Champion and
Cierra Jordan each recorded four steals, and TLU picked up 19 total steals as a team. Centenary committed 28 turnovers.
Champion was the third Bulldog in double figures. She scored 13 and had four rebounds and two assists.
Kasey Hairell also hit double figures, with 10 points to go along with eight rebounds.
The Bulldogs scored 31 points off turnovers and had 42 points in the paint. TLU attempted only eight three-point shots and made only two.
Centenary took 18 three-point shots and made 10.
Jasmine Morris led Centenary with 23 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
