SHREVEPORT, La. -- Texas Lutheran senior point guard
Sterling Holmes drilled a three-pointer with two seconds to play to lift the Bulldogs to a 98-95 conference road victory Sunday against Centenary College (La.).
Holmes scored a career-high 33 points and added seven rebounds and six assists in 38 minutes of action. With his fourth point of the day, Holmes reached 1,000 career points for his Bulldog career. Holmes reached 1,000 points in 70 games with TLU.
TLU improved to 11-7 overall and to 5-2 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Centenary fell to 8-10 overall and to 2-5 in the SCAC.
The Bulldogs led by 23 points with 13:39 to play in the second half before the Gents mounted their frantic rally.
James Sapp drained a three-pointer with 13 seconds to play to tie the game at 95. Sapp led the Gents with 43 points and 14 rebounds. Travion Kirkendoll added 35 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
Centenary never led in the game and trailed by 13 at the half, 47-34. The Gents scored 61 in the second half.
TLU senior shooting guard
Jordan Kouremetis registered 20 points, three rebounds and two assists, and senior forward
Zach Behr added 14 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.
The Bulldogs made 19 of their 34 three-point attempts.
Holmes hit seven of his nine shots from long range, and Kouremetis connected on five of his 11 shots from long-range.
