SHERMAN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Women's Basketball maintained a share of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference lead with a gritty 75-68 road victory Friday night against Austin College.
TLU and Austin each entered the game with 4-1 marks in the SCAC. TLU captured the key conference road win by out-scoring Austin 10-3 in the extra session.
The Bulldogs improved to 13-4 overall (5-1 SCAC) and bounced back from Tuesday's road loss at Southwestern. Austin College fell to 12-5 overall and to 4-2 in the SCAC.
Reigning SCAC Player of the Week
Savannah Hight scored four of her game-high 22 points in the overtime session. Hight finished the game with 22 points, 12 rebounds, five steals and a block.
Fellow seniors
Kristen Lye and
Cierra Jordan each scored 13 for the Bulldogs. Lye joined Hight in recording a double-double. The senior forward pulled down 13 rebounds and had three assists and two steals.
Jordan, a senior shooting guard, grabbed seven boards and had two assists and two steals.
TLU registered 12 steals on the night and won the turnover battle with the 'Roos by eight. TLU turned the ball over 12 times but forced 20 Austin College turnovers.
The Bulldogs won despite shooting just 36 percent for the game and 32.5 percent in the second half. TLU had 16 second-chance points to just one for Austin.
Each team went to the line 21 times. Austin missed 10 free throws. TLU missed six.
TLU continues its two-game road swing in the SCAC with a Sunday noon contest in Shreveport, La. against Centenary College (La.).
