SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran senior forward
Savannah Hight (San Antonio/Brandeis) scored 28 points and recorded five assists, four steals and four rebounds to lead the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs to an 85-78 home win Saturday over 12th-ranked and previously unbeaten Trinity.
The Bulldogs moved to the top of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference with their fourth league win in four tries. TLU improved to 12-3 overall and to 4-0 in the SCAC.
Trinity fell to 14-1 overall and to 3-1 in the SCAC. The Tigers are ranked 12th in the D3hoops.com poll and 15th in the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association poll.
With her first point of the afternoon, Hight became the 12th player in program history to score 1,000 points. She continued her climb up the TLU scoring chart with 24 points in the second half as TLU rallied from a nine-point first-quarter deficit and a five-point halftime deficit.
Hight made six of her 13 field goal attempts and went a perfect 15-for-15 at the free throw line. Her 15 made free throws tied the SCAC mark for second-most free throws made in a game without a miss.
The Bulldogs opened the second half with a 15-2 run and out-scored Trinity 23-8 in the third quarter. The Bulldogs opened a 13-point lead in the fourth quarter.
TLU shot 52.9 percent (9-for-17) in the third quarter. Trinity struggled in the third, making just 17.6 percent (3-for-17).
Hight's fellow senior captain
Kristen Lye (San Antonio/Clark) collected a game-high 15 rebounds and scored 11. She dished out three assists and recorded three steals.
Senior guards
Bailey Champion (San Antonio/Reagan) and
Cierra Jordan (Llano/Llano) each scored 14. Champion registered three assists and two rebounds, and Jordan posted five rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Micah Weaver scored 25 points off the Trinity bench. Monica Holguin tallied 18 points, 10 rebounds, three steals and three assists.
