SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran survived a last-minute rally from Schreiner University and grabbed a 74-72 home conference win Friday night in Memorial Gymnasium.
TLU improved to 8-6 overall and to 2-1 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. Schreiner dropped to 5-9 overall and to 2-1 in the SCAC.
The Bulldogs led by seven with 25 seconds to play, but Schreiner hit a pair of threes sandwiched around a pair of
Sterling Holmes free throws to cut the lead down to three with six seconds remaiining on the clock.
TLU then missed its next two free throws and intentionally fouled Schreiner to prevent a game-tying three-pointer. On the foul, TLU was called for a flagrant foul, and Schreiner went to the line for two free throws and maintained possession of the ball.
With three seconds on the clock, Nathan Robbins made one of two at the line. Schreiner then inbounded the ball near halfcourt. Blake Kelley's long three at the buzzer did not draw iron.

Jordan Kouremetis led the Bulldogs with 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting. He made three three-pointers.
Zach Behr and Holmes each added 16. Behr tallied four rebounds and two assists. Holmes only took five shots, but he made three (all three-pointers) and went 7-for-10 at the foul line.
Matthew Gillette led TLU in rebounds, with eight. Behr and
Mark Sullivan each had four rebounds.
TLU led 35-25 at the break. Schreiner shot 50 percent from the field in the second half. The Bulldogs dropped down to 40 percent over the final 20 minutes.
