AUSTIN --
Anakay Mora Alcazar knocked home the game-winner in the 88th minute to lift the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs to a 2-1 non-conference win Thursday over Huston-Tillotson University at Onion Creek Soccer Complex.
Alcazar, a freshman from San Antonio, took a cross from
Jaclyn Smolik, beat a defender and then put a shot past the keeper from about five yards.
Smolik scored the first TLU goal with a cross from
Selena Wicklund. Smolik put her first shot off the left post, picked up the rebound and scored into the left corner. Smolik's goal came in the 24th minute.
Alyssa Cuevas tied the match for HTU in the 59th minute. Cuevas scored on her own corner kick with a goal into the left side of the net.
Freshman keeper
Stephanie Barrientos, a Mission native, withstood 25 HTU shots and 10 total shots on goal. Barrientos made nine saves and had two early plays in which she cut off dangerous crosses into the box.
TLU had 12 total shots and put seven shots on goal.
TLU improved to 3-2-2 overall. HTU fell to 2-4.
The Bulldogs return to Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play Sunday in Irving, Texas against the University of Dallas. Match start is scheduled for 2 p.m.
