SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Volleyball opened its 2016 season with a twin-bill split, winning in three sets against Concordia Texas and losing in four sets to Concordia Wisconsin.
TLU defeated Concordia Texas 25-21, 25-17, 25-15 and fell to Concordia Wisconsin 25-11, 17-25, 25-14, 25-21.
Kristin Fording paced TLU with 17 kills in the opener. The senior outside hitter hit .552 with the 17 kills on 29 attempts with just one error.
Mathis Popelsky added 18 digs, and
Alexis Kurtz contributed six total blocks (six solo, six block assists).
Kaci Pecht dished out 18 assists.
In the loss to Concordia Wisconsin, TLU hit -.008 and had 17 reception errors (17 aces for Concordia Wisconsin). The Falcons also recorded 12 total blocks.
Lauren Nivinski registered seven total blocks and seven kills for the Falcons.
TLU received seven kills and 17 digs from Fording.
Carlie Childress collected four total blocks.
TLU now travels to the University of Texas at Dallas Tournament in Richardson, Texas for matches Saturday against East Texas Baptist and the host school Texas Dallas.
