IRVING, Texas -- Senior right-hander
Taylor Grissom tossed the 14th no-hitter in Texas Lutheran Softball history in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader sweep of University of Dallas.
Third-ranked TLU registered 11-0 and 6-0 wins over Dallas to finish a four-game sweep at Crusader Field.
In the 11-0 victory that ended after five innings, Grissom recorded the second no-hitter of her Bulldog career. Her first no-hitter was a perfect game against Austin College in 2014. That perfect game was the program's last no-hitter before Saturday.
Grissom (13-0) struck out five and did not issue a walk. Grissom and the Bulldogs missed out on the perfect game with a throwing error in the first inning.
Megan Armistead went 4-for-4 with three runs scored, and
Taylor Yancey drove in three with a pair of hits.
Kirsten Whiteside and
Brayden Pinckard each picked up two RBI in the early game.
In game two, the Bulldogs broke open a scoreless game with a run in the fourth, a run in the fifth and four more in the seventh.
Nicole Snow posted a 3-for-3 performance, and
Jennifer Gallagher went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Heather Hummel hit her school-record ninth home of the season, a solo shot in the seventh. The home run was the 16th of her career - another school record.
Veny Pizana (8-1) recorded the four-hit shutout for TLU in the late game. Pizana struck out eight and walked two.
TLU improved to 33-2 overall and to 19-1 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Dallas dropped to 16-18 overall and to 11-9 in the SCAC.
