SAN ANTONIO -- Texas Lutheran knocked off No. 1-ranked Trinity University 8-4 and improved to 10-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference with the road win at Trinity Baseball Field.
TLU freshman right-hander
Nathan Malinovsky pitched seven strong innings and moved to 7-1. Malinovsky allowed four runs, struck out two and walked two.
Keaton Bohrmann drove in three, collected three hits and started the game-ending double play in the ninth.
Drew Waller, a freshman right-hander, tossed the final 1-1/3 innings for the Bulldogs. Waller surrendered just one hit and struck out one.
The Bulldogs jumped on Trinity starter Troy Nelson (4-1) for three runs in the first and two more runs in the second.
TLU right fielder
Riley Schaefer delivered three hits, a run and an RBI. Schaefer was one of four Bulldogs to register three hits.
In addition to Schaefer and Bohrmann,
Alejandro Gutierrez and
Colby Schrade each had three base knocks.
The Bulldogs' top six hitters combined for 15 hits, six runs scored and seven RBI.
Lincoln Baylor, TLU's No. 6 batter in the lineup, posted a pair of hits and drove in two runs.
TLU moved to 20-9 overall and to 10-0 in the SCAC. Trinity fell to 27-6 and to 10-3 in the SCAC.
The Bulldogs and Tigers play a 1:30 p.m. doubleheader Saturday at Trinity Baseball Field.
