TLU Baseball completes 3-game sweep of Dallas with 7-5 win

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran pushed its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference record to 9-0 by defeating University of Dallas 7-5 Sunday to complete a three-game sweep of the University of Dallas.

Freshman right-hander Cody Rimko tossed six strong innings, striking out four and allowing just one run. He scattered five hits and did not issue a walk.

The Bulldogs gave Rimko (3-2) a quick 4-0 lead with four runs in the first inning. TLU chased Dallas starter Luciano Villanueva (1-3) after he pitched just two-thirds of an inning.

In the first, the Bulldogs put together five hits and a walk and took advantage of a wild pitch. Colby Schrade, Trenton Ray and Eric Rabinowitz each drove in runs in the first.

A Lincoln Baylor sacrifice fly in the fifth gave TLU a 5-1 lead. In the seventh, the Bulldogs scored two unearned runs. Schrade delivered a sacrifice fly to score Keaton Bohrmann. Alejandro Gutierrez scored earlier in the frame on a throwing error.

Trailing 7-1, Dallas made it interesting in the ninth. The Crusaders scored four runs and had the tying run at the plate and a runner at third with one out.

Sophomore left-hander Aaron Milone entered the game and retired a pinch hitter on a foul ball to catcher Trenton Ray. The last batter, Josh Abalos, flew out to center field, where Rayce Gatlin tracked it down for the final out.

TLU improved to 19-9 overall. The Bulldogs have swept their first three conference three-game series.

Dallas dropped to 7-22 overall and to 3-6 in the SCAC.

TLU's next conference series comes against the No. 1-ranked team in NCAA Division III, the Trinity Tigers. The three-game set starts at 7 p.m. Friday in San Antonio. A Saturday doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m. All three games will be played at Trinity University.
