GEORGETOWN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran's 49-game win streak in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play came to a close Saturday with a 7-5 loss in the final game of a four-game series with Southwestern.
TLU won both games of a Friday doubleheader (in Seguin) against the Pirates and took the early game Saturday, 17-3 in five innings, in Georgetown.
Southwestern registered a 7-5 win in the series finale, giving TLU its first SCAC loss since March 29, 2014.
Saturday's split brings TLU's overall record to 29-2 and its SCAC mark to 15-1.
Southwestern now stands at 16-16 overall and 9-11 in the SCAC.
In the early game, TLU catcher
Jennifer Gallagher went 5-for-5 with a homer and three RBI.
Megan Armistead,
Kirsten Whiteside and
Nicole Snow each had three hits.
Snow drove in six. She had a pair of two-run singles and then a two-run double.
Whiteside posted a 3-for-4 performance with three RBI.
In game two, TLU took a quick 2-0 lead and had a 3-2 advantage in the fourth. Stacy Rosengren delivered a two-run triple in the fourth to put the Pirates in front.
Paige McShan and Taylor Curtis added to the Pirates' lead with back-to-back homers in the sixth.
TLU rallied for two runs in the seventh and had the tying run at the plate before the game came to a close with a groundout.
