No. 3 TLU Softball splits Saturday doubleheader; SCAC streak ends at 49

GEORGETOWN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran's 49-game win streak in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play came to a close Saturday with a 7-5 loss in the final game of a four-game series with Southwestern.

TLU won both games of a Friday doubleheader (in Seguin) against the Pirates and took the early game Saturday, 17-3 in five innings, in Georgetown.

Southwestern registered a 7-5 win in the series finale, giving TLU its first SCAC loss since March 29, 2014.

Saturday's split brings TLU's overall record to 29-2 and its SCAC mark to 15-1.

Southwestern now stands at 16-16 overall and 9-11 in the SCAC.

In the early game, TLU catcher Jennifer Gallagher went 5-for-5 with a homer and three RBI. Megan Armistead, Kirsten Whiteside and Nicole Snow each had three hits.

Snow drove in six. She had a pair of two-run singles and then a two-run double.

Whiteside posted a 3-for-4 performance with three RBI.

In game two, TLU took a quick 2-0 lead and had a 3-2 advantage in the fourth. Stacy Rosengren delivered a two-run triple in the fourth to put the Pirates in front.

Paige McShan and Taylor Curtis added to the Pirates' lead with back-to-back homers in the sixth.

TLU rallied for two runs in the seventh and had the tying run at the plate before the game came to a close with a groundout.
