Dylan Murrell tossed six strong innings, and sophomore right fielder
Riley Schaefer scored three runs, tripled and went 3-for-5 as the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs snapped a two-game skid with a 7-1 win over Baldwin Wallace (Ohio).
At TLU's Katt-Isbel Field, Murrell (Tomball/Memorial) allowed only one run (after a ball was lost in the lights) in the first inning and picked up his first collegiate win. Murrell (1-0) struck out three, walked one and scattered four hits.
Schaefer (Thorndale/Thorndale) pushed his season average to .404 with three more hits. He singled and scored in the first, singled and scored in the sixth, and tripled and scored in the eighth.
Junior right-hander
Derek Cantu (George West/George West) pitched the final three innings and recorded his third save of 2016. Cantu struck out three and surrendered just one hit.
Justin Law (Houston/Atascocita/Temple JC) collected three hits before leaving with an injury in the top of the seventh. Law doubled, drove in a run, and scored a run.
Alejandro Gutierrez (Pharr/PSJA North) and
Colby Schrade (Shiner/St. Paul/Trinidad JC) each had two hits with a run scored and an RBI.
TLU improved to 8-7 overall. Baldwin Wallace, a NCAA Division III program out of Berea, Ohio, dropped to 4-5.
The Bulldogs will host DeSales (Pa.), weather permitting, Wednesday night at Katt-Isbel Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. TLU will have live video and live stats on tlubulldogs.com.
