SEGUIN, Texas -- Sophomore designated hitter
Andrew Whitten singled home the winning run in the bottom of the 13th as the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs held on for a conference-opening 7-6 victory over Schreiner.
Saturday night at Katt-Isbel Field, TLU trailed by a run in the 11th and by a run in the 13th but rallied to get the walk-off win against the Mountaineers.
TLU improved to 9-7 overall, 1-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. Schreiner dropped to 5-11 overall and to 0-1 in the SCAC.
Keaton Bohrmann delivered a two-out, RBI single to left to tie the game in the 13th. He then scored the winning run on the Whitten single that dropped into fair territory about a foot inside the left-field line.
Bohrmann went 4-for-6 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Riley Schaefer collected three hits in seven at-bats for the Bulldogs.
Dylan Murrell (2-0) notched the win in relief. The freshman right-hander worked the top of the 13th in relief of
Stephen Greenlees.
Lincoln Baylor started for TLU and pitched into the ninth. He went 8-1/3 innings, struck out six and allowed just two earned runs.
The teams combined for 10 errors. Of the 13 runs scored, only six runs were earned.
TLU and Schreiner play a conference doubleheader Sunday, starting at 1 p.m. at Katt-Isbel Field.
