Lochte leads Bulldogs to doubleheader sweep of Calumet (Ind.)

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran junior Amanda Lochte took a perfect game into the fifth inning for the second straight start to lead the Bulldogs to a doubleheader sweep of Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.).

Friday afternoon at TLU's Ed Kruse Field, the Bulldogs won the first game 5-3 and took the second game 8-0 in five innings.

Lochte allowed two singles in the fifth and finished with a complete-game two-hitter. The junior right-hander from Fredericksburg (Fredericksburg) improved to 5-0 on the year and lowered her season ERA to 0.23.

Lochte struck out four and did not walk a batter against the Crimson Wave.

TLU, ranked eighth in the latest NFCA poll for NCAA Division III, moved its overall record to 12-0 with the two non-conference wins.

The Bulldogs avenged last season's home loss to Calumet in a doubleheader split on March 2, 2015. That 3-2 loss is TLU's last setback at Ed Kruse Stadium.

TLU has now won 30 straight games at home and 42 consecutive regular-season contests. Both streaks date back to last year's loss to Calumet

The Bulldogs held on for the win in the early game. Leading 5-1 into the seventh, Calumet scored two runs and had the tying run at the plate. TLU senior right-hander Taylor Grissom struck out the final batter to secure the Bulldog win.

Grissom (4-0) went the distance for TLU. She allowed two earned runs, struck out two and walked one.

Heather Hummel and Kaymee Gooden each delivered two-RBI doubles in the game one win.

In game two, Hummel hit a long two-run home run to right-center field in the Bulldogs' four-run first inning. Hummel went 2-for-2 with two runs scored.

Nicole Snow ended the late game with a walk-off two-run double to left field.

TLU travels next week to the 2016 NFCA Division III Leadoff Classic, March 11-13 in Columbus, Ga. The Bulldogs will play a total of six games.

The Leadoff Classic starts with pool play and then bracket play. The Bulldogs face Western Connecticut, Central (Iowa) and Piedmont (Ga.) in pool play.
