SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Softball extended its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference regular-season win streak to 44 games with 8-0 and 7-1 victories over Centenary College (La.) Friday afternoon at TLU's Ed Kruse Stadium - Morck Softball Field.
TLU, ranked fourth in the latest NFCA Top 25 poll for NCAA Division III, moved its overall record to 22-1. The Bulldogs, two-time defending champions of the SCAC, are 10-0 this year in conference play.
The Bulldogs' winning streak at Ed Kruse Stadium also improved. The Bulldogs have won 32 straight on their home field.
In the first game, senior right-hander
Taylor Grissom spun a complete-game two-hitter. The Spring native struck out one and did not walk a batter. Grissom improved to 8-0 in 2016 and to 37-5 as a Bulldog.
Kaymee Gooden hit her second home run of the season, a solo shot, to put TLU up 2-0 in the second inning. Gooden drove in a pair of runs.
Taylor Yancey started the Bulldog scoring with an RBI single in the first. Yancey also drove in two runs and went 2-for-3.
TLU walked 14 times and stole seven bases in the first game.
In game two, TLU trailed 1-0 until a four-run fifth inning. The Bulldogs capitalized on a hit-by-pitch, four stolen bases, two errors and three singles.
Grace Estes had a two-run single in the frame.
The Bulldogs added three more runs in the sixth.
Kirsten Whiteside produced an RBI single, and
Brayden Pinckard collected a two-run single.
Amanda Lochte (7-1) tossed five innings and allowed one earned run.
Veny Pizana worked the final two innings and collected her first save of the year. Pizana entered the game with TLU in front 4-1.
Centenary dropped to 14-14 overall and to 4-10 in the SCAC.
