Bulldogs 14-11 come-from-behind win completes 3-game sweep of Roos

SHERMAN, Texas â€" It wasn't easy or pretty Sunday afternoon at Baker Field, but the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs completed a three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series sweep of the Austin College Kangaroos with a 14-11 come-from-behind win.

TLU trailed 11-3 entering the seventh but scored seven runs in the top of the inning to get back into the game.

Trenton Ray started the frame with a solo homer, and Keaton Bohrmann belted a three-run shot later in the inning.

Ray batted again in the seventh and delivered an RBI double to bring the Bulldogs within one.

In the eighth, TLU's Rayce Gatlin led-off the inning with a walk, made it to third on a fly ball to the outfield, and scored on a balk to tie the game at 11.

TLU scored three more times in the top of the ninth on a two-run double from Eric Rabinowitz and an RBI single from Rayce Gatlin.

Rabinowitz scored three times, and Ray and Gatlin each scored twice.

In the bottom of the sixth, Drew Waller entered the game to pitch for TLU. The freshman right-hander worked three scoreless innings after the Kangaroos had scored eight in the previous two innings.

Waller registered the win and improved to 2-0. He struck out six, allowed one hit and walked one.

Derek Cantu worked the ninth for his fourth save of the year. Cantu gave up one hit but struck out the final Austin College batter before the tying run could reach the plate.

TLU improved to 15-8 overall and to 6-0 in the SCAC. The Bulldogs have won four straight.

The Bulldogs won games one and two of the series Saturday by scores of 22-4 and 17-0.

Austin College dropped to 9-11 overall and to 0-6 in the SCAC.

The Bulldogs have an off-week in terms of SCAC play next weekend, but the team is scheduled to play a non-conference doubleheader Friday in Richardson, Texas against the University of Texas at Dallas. Game one is set for a 1 p.m. start.
