Texas Lutheran finishes conference series sweep of Schreiner

SEGUIN, Texas -- After surviving a wild 7-6 win in 13 innings Saturday night, Texas Lutheran finished off a three-game conference series sweep of the Schreiner Mountaineers with 10-0 and 5-3 victories at Katt-Isbel Field.

TLU extended its win streak to four games and improved to 11-7 overall and to 3-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Schreiner dropped to 5-13 overall and to 0-3 in the SCAC.

TLU completed the series sweep without the services of leading run-producer and first baseman Justin Law, who missed the three games with an injury.

Sami Resendez filled in for Law on Sunday and produced a pair of RBI singles in the 5-3 victory. Resendez scored two runs in the doubleheader.

Redshirt freshman right-hander Nathan Malinovsky tossed a two-hit shutout in the Sunday opener. The game ended in the seventh with the conference's 10-run rule.

Malinovsky struck out four and walked two to move his record to 3-1.

Alejandro Gutierrez delivered the walk-off hit in the run-rule game. Gutierrez laced a bases-loaded single to drive home Eric Rabinowitz. Gutierrez went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBI.

In the late game, Gutierrez added two more hits and an RBI.

Lincoln Baylor went 2-for-4 with two RBI in the early game, and he added a 2-for-4 performance with an RBI in the late game.

Colby Schrade recorded three hits in the 10-0 win and two more hits in the 5-3 victory.

TLU collected 19 hits in the first game and 12 more in the second.

In total, TLU out-hit Schreiner 48-12 over the three games.

Cody Rimko (2-2) tossed five innings to get the late-game win. The freshman right-hander allowed just one earned run and struck out three.

Dylan Murrell worked a perfect ninth to secure his first collegiate save.

TLU is back in action Monday and Tuesday at Katt-Isbel Field for non-conference action. The Bulldogs face Denison (Ohio) at 3 p.m. Monday and play Spalding (Ky.) at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Both games will have live video and live stats on tlubulldogs.com.
