SEGUIN, Texas -- After surviving a wild 7-6 win in 13 innings Saturday night, Texas Lutheran finished off a three-game conference series sweep of the Schreiner Mountaineers with 10-0 and 5-3 victories at Katt-Isbel Field.
TLU extended its win streak to four games and improved to 11-7 overall and to 3-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Schreiner dropped to 5-13 overall and to 0-3 in the SCAC.
TLU completed the series sweep without the services of leading run-producer and first baseman
Justin Law, who missed the three games with an injury.
Sami Resendez filled in for Law on Sunday and produced a pair of RBI singles in the 5-3 victory. Resendez scored two runs in the doubleheader.
Redshirt freshman right-hander
Nathan Malinovsky tossed a two-hit shutout in the Sunday opener. The game ended in the seventh with the conference's 10-run rule.
Malinovsky struck out four and walked two to move his record to 3-1.
Alejandro Gutierrez delivered the walk-off hit in the run-rule game. Gutierrez laced a bases-loaded single to drive home
Eric Rabinowitz. Gutierrez went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBI.
In the late game, Gutierrez added two more hits and an RBI.
Lincoln Baylor went 2-for-4 with two RBI in the early game, and he added a 2-for-4 performance with an RBI in the late game.
Colby Schrade recorded three hits in the 10-0 win and two more hits in the 5-3 victory.
TLU collected 19 hits in the first game and 12 more in the second.
In total, TLU out-hit Schreiner 48-12 over the three games.
Cody Rimko (2-2) tossed five innings to get the late-game win. The freshman right-hander allowed just one earned run and struck out three.
Dylan Murrell worked a perfect ninth to secure his first collegiate save.
TLU is back in action Monday and Tuesday at Katt-Isbel Field for non-conference action. The Bulldogs face Denison (Ohio) at 3 p.m. Monday and play Spalding (Ky.) at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
