Texas Lutheran posts pair of softball wins over Staten Island (N.Y.)


SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran recorded a pair of non-conference softball wins Tuesday night against the College of Staten Island (N.Y.). The Bulldogs won 6-0 and 9-2 at TLU's Ed Kruse Stadium - Morck Softball Field.

In the early game, Bulldog right-hander Amanda Lochte (Fredericksburg/Fredericksburg) took a perfect game into the fifth inning and finished with a complete-game, three-hitter. Lochte improved to 4-0.

Taylor Yancey (Magnolia/Magnolia West) hit a two-run single in the first and went 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored. Grace Estes (Willis/Willis) added three hits in three at-bats and scored two runs.

In game two, Jennifer Gallagher (Missouri City/Elkins) and Heather Hummel (Houston/Stratford) each doubled in the first inning as the Bulldogs scored three runs. Gallagher doubled again in the second inning and drove in two runs.

Gallagher went 3-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI.

Taylor Grissom (Spring/Klein Collins) picked up the win in two innings of relief work in game two. She did not allow a hit and struck out three.

TLU, ranked 13th in the NFCA poll for NCAA Division III, improved to 10-0. Staten Island dropped to 5-3.

The Bulldogs return to action at Ed Kruse Stadium with a Friday doubleheader against Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.). First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
