SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran held Schreiner to 25 percent shooting in the first half and collected an 80-71 home win Saturday in Memorial Gymnasium.
TLU led 39-14 at the half and maintained a double-digit lead over the Mountaineers for most of the second half.
The Bulldogs improved to 17-5 overall and to 9-2 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
The victory clinched a spot in the SCAC Tournament for the Bulldogs, the defending tournament champions and an NCAA Division III tournament team last season.
Zach Behr (Temple/Temple) came off the TLU bench to score 18, and point guard
Sterling Holmes (San Antonio/Antonian) added 17 points and five rebounds.
Paris Marquez (Humble/Atascocita) was the only other Bulldog in double figures He scored 11 and dished out four assists.
TLU made 60.9 percent of its second-half shots and finished the game at 46.4 percent. The Bulldogs were just 5-for-20 from the three-point line.
Jared Thompson led Schreiner with 17. Christian Pena registered 12 points, eight rebounds and three assists.
The Bulldogs now hit the road for the last three games of the SCAC schedule. TLU travels to University of Dallas and Austin College next Friday and Saturday, respectively, before a final road showdown with Southwestern on Feb. 19.
