SEGUIN, Texas â€" Trinity took sole possession of first place in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball standings with a 57-53 road win over Texas Lutheran.

Trinity and TLU entered the contest with identical 7-2 conference records. TLU defeated Trinity in San Antonio earlier in the season.

Friday night in TLU's Memorial Gymnasium, Monica Holguin scored 20 for the Tigers, who improved to 17-4 overall and to 8-2 in the SCAC.

TLU dropped to 11-10 overall and to 7-3 in the SCAC.

TLU trailed 35-25 at the half and 44-32 at the end of three quarters. But the Bulldogs rallied to tie the game at 48 with 3:36 remaining in the game.

Madison Ray scored on a driving layup to erase the 12-point Trinity advantage.

Trinity came right back with a Holguin layup on the next possession. The lead went back up to five for the Tigers on a Holguin three-pointer with 2:22 to play.

The Bulldogs cut the lead back down to two with 18 seconds remaining.
Jasmine Sauceda scored after a sideline pass from
Cierra Jordan. The layup was part of a quick 4-0 run for TLU, with layups from
Kristen Lye and Sauceda surrounding a Trinity turnover.

Holguin and Caitlin Barrett each made one free throw in the closing seconds, and TLU missed a long three-pointer to close out the home loss.

Lye led TLU with 12 points, nine rebounds, two blocks and two steals. She was the only Bulldog in double figures.

Jordan scored nine off the Bulldog bench. She added six rebounds and four assists. Sauceda contributed seven points and six rebounds, and Ray scored eight with three rebounds.
