Bulldogs close strong in 65-55 home win over Schreiner

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran out-scored Schreiner 20-8 in the fourth quarter and pulled out a 65-55 conference win Saturday in Memorial Gymnasium.

The two teams entered the day in a tie for third place in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference standings. At 12-10 overall and 8-3 in the SCAC with the win, the Bulldogs moved a half-game ahead of Austin College for second place.

Schreiner dropped to 9-12 overall and to 7-4 in the SCAC. The Mountaineers currently hold down fourth place.

The Bulldogs trailed by two entering the fourth but hit big shots in the final period to hand Schreiner the conference loss. Cierra Jordan (Llano/Llano) and Bailey Champion (San Antonio/Reagan) each hit three-pointers in the closing minutes.

Champion's three gave TLU a three-point lead with 6:59 to play, and Jordan put TLU up three with a three-pointer with 3:40 remaining.

Taylor Dydalewicz (Dripping Springs/Lake Travis), playing in the final home game of her outstanding career, scored a team-high 17 points. She grabbed four rebounds. Dydalewicz, the 2014-15 SCAC Player of the Year, sits fifth in career scoring at TLU.

Jordan came off the TLU bench to score 15 (one off her career-high of 16). She did make a career-high four three-pointers in the win Saturday. Jordan was 4-for-5 from the arc and 4-for-6 from the field overall.

Kristen Lye (San Antonio/Clark) contributed 12 points and 12 rebounds. Senior forward Autumn Shead (Pflugerville/Connally) scored eight and pulled down 10 rebounds. She also registered a career-best six blocks.

TLU won despite being out-rebounded 54-39. Schreiner held a 26-6 advantage on the offensive glass.

Kelsie Jackson scored 28 and had 11 rebounds and three assists for the Mountaineers.

TLU hits the road for conference contests next Friday and Saturday at University of Dallas and Austin College, respectively. The Bulldogs wrap up conference play Feb. 19 in Georgetown, Texas against Southwestern University.
