SEGUIN, Texas â€" Matt Jones' two free throws with 1.25 seconds to play lifted the Trinity University Tigers to an 83-82 upset road win over Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference leader Texas Lutheran.

Friday night in TLU's Memorial Gymnasium, the Bulldogs took a one-point lead on a made free throw from
Sterling Holmes with seven seconds to play.

Jones drove down the floor and met three defenders about five feet from the hoop. He went up, drew the foul and then calmly sank two free throws.
Â
TLU lost its first home game of the season and dropped to 16-5 overall and to 8-2 in the SCAC.

Trinity improved to 8-13 overall and to 4-6 in the SCAC.

The teams split the regular-season series, with each team winning on the other's home floor.

A.J. Pulliam and Jayden Holden scored 24 and 23, respectively, for the Tigers. Pulliam added 11 rebounds, four assists, three blocks and three steals.

Holden collected six rebounds and made 10 of his 16 shot attempts.

Jones chipped in 18 points, seven assists and four steals. He was 5-for-6 at the foul line.

Trinity hit 54.5 percent of its shots in the second half and finished at 50.8 percent for the game.

TLU shot just 34.4 percent in the first half. The Bulldogs made 46.7 percent in the second half, but the overall shooting percentage ended at 40.3 percent.

The Bulldogs did make it to the free throw line 30 times. The team made 22 of 30.

Sterling Holmes led TLU with 21 points. He recorded five rebounds and two assists.
Paris Marquez added 14 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Jordan Kouremetis contributed 13 points, and
Zach Behr and
Harris Jowell each scored 11.

TLU continues conference play Saturday with a 4 p.m. home contest against Schreiner.
