SHREVEPORT, La. -- Texas Lutheran, the 2014 conference champion, advanced to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament semifinal with a 70-50 win Friday against 2015 SCAC champion Southwestern.
TLU will play Trinity University, the top seed, at 5 p.m. Saturday in Centenary College's Gold Dome. The Bulldogs and Tigers will play in an SCAC elimination game for the third consecutive year.
TLU improved to 15-11 overall. Southwestern fell to 8-18. TLU defeated Southwestern for a third time this year.
Senior forward
Taylor Dydalewicz and junior forward
Kristen Lye scored 16 and 18, respectively, for TLU. Lye also grabbed seven rebounds, and Dydalewicz recorded three steals.
Junior guard/forward
Savannah Hight registered five steals, three assists, three rebounds and 10 points.
TLU shot 50 percent from the field and went 21-for-27 at the free throw line.
Southwestern managed just 31.1 percent from the field and went 2-for-11 at the three-point line.
Audrey Garcia led Southwestern with 19 points.
Cierra Jordan scored eight off the bench for TLU. She grabbed four rebounds and collected three steals.
TLU entered the game as the No. 4 seed for the SCAC tournament. Southwestern entered as the No. 5 seed.
