SHREVEPORT, La. -- Texas Lutheran's 2015-16 season came to an end Saturday with a 69-54 loss to top seed Trinity at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Tournament.
In Centenary College's Gold Dome, the Bulldogs committed 20 turnovers and were held to 35.8 percent shooting overall and to 27.8 percent shooting from the three-point line.
TLU, the fourth seed in the tournament, fell to Trinity for a second consecutive year in the SCAC semifinal round. The Bulldogs defeated Trinity two years ago for the 2014 SCAC Championship.
Monica Holguin and Allison Staley each scored 20 for the No. 24 Tigers, who improved to 21-5 overall. Holguin added five rebounds and three assists, and Staley contributed two assists and three steals.
TLU dropped to 15-12 overall.
The Bulldogs were led by senior forward
Taylor Dydalewicz, who scored 12 and pulled down three rebounds. Junior forward
Savannah Hight contributed 11 points, four rebounds and four steals.
Kristen Lye, a junior forward, led TLU in rebounding, with 12. She scored seven and had two assists.
The Bulldogs put Trinity on the line 27 times, and the Tigers made 18 free throws.
The Tigers out-rebounded TLU 41-30. The Bulldogs gave up 13 offensive rebounds to the Tigers.
Trinity led as many as 18 in the fourth quarter. TLU did not have a lead in the game.
