SHERMAN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran moved its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference consecutive win streak to 36 games with 11-5 and 4-0 road victories Friday at Austin College.
At Old Settlers Park, the Bulldogs improved to 6-0 overall and to 2-0 in the SCAC. Austin College fell to 5-3 overall and to 0-2 in the SCAC.
TLU fell behind 5-2 into the fifth inning of the first game against the Kangaroos. But the Bulldogs rallied for two runs in the fifth, four more in the sixth and three in the seventh.
Kaymee Gooden hit a three-run homer in the sixth, and
Heather Hummel added a solo shot in the seventh.
Jennifer Gallagher went 4-for-5 with a run scored and a double in the early game.
Taylor Yancey also went 4-for-5 in the first game. Yancey scored twice and drove in two.
Veny Pizana picked up the win in relief of
Taylor Grissom. Pizana tossed 5-1/3 innings and did not allow an earned run. She struck out five and walked two.
In the late game,
Amanda Lochte tossed her second consecutive shutout. She struck out seven and walked two. Lochte surrendered just three hits.
Kali Tyler hit a solo home run in the second inning for TLU, and Gooden drove in a run in the third with a bases loaded walk. Tyler added an RBI single in the sixth.
Gallagher registered two more hits in the second game.
The Bulldogs and Kangaroos play a second conference doubleheader Saturday at Old Settlers Park. Start time is noon.
