Mary Hardin-Baylor scores 8 in 9th, 4 in 10th to stun Bulldogs

SEGUIN, Texas -- The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor rallied from a 13-5 ninth-inning deficit, scoring eight runs in the ninth and four more in the 10th, to stun the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs 17-14 Wednesday night at TLU's Katt-Isbel Field.

TLU (5-3) appeared on its way to a fourth straight victory, but the Cru (3-4) sent 12 men to the plate and tallied seven hits in the ninth to force extra innings. UMHB recorded five more hits and four more runs in the 10th.

The Bulldogs appeared to have the game won on a play at first base with two outs in the ninth and TLU still leading by two. With two runners aboard, a throw from shortstop Thomas Varner short-hopped Sami Resendez at first. Resendez appeared to make the catch at first with his foot on the bag. Resendez stepped toward the mound, thinking the game was over, as the second UMHB run crossed home plate.

TLU Head Coach Greg Burnett came out to argue the call at first base, and the two umpires held a brief discussion before ruling the runner safe at first and counting both runs.

Six of the Cru's last 12 runs were unearned. The Bulldogs and Cru each committed five errors.

Emery Atkisson and Matthew Mazoch each drove in three for UMHB. Dakota Parsons went 4-for-6 with two runs scored and two RBI.

Keaton Bohrmann hit a three-run homer and drove in four for TLU. Justin Law added three runs scored and three RBI. Trenton Ray also homered for the Bulldogs.

With TLU leading 13-5, only Bohrmann and right-fielder Riley Schaefer were starters remaining in the game for the Bulldogs in the ninth.

Stuart Hennigar (1-0) picked up the win, and Cory Farr notched his second save. Axel Liciaga (0-1) took the loss for the Bulldogs.

TLU travels to Irving, Texas this weekend for a three-game non-conference series at the University of Dallas on Saturday and Sunday.
