Texas Lutheran posts strong 72-50 road win at Southwestern

GEORGETOWN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran held Southwestern to four points in the second quarter, out-scoring the Pirates 17-4 in the period, and collected a convincing 72-50 road win Friday night at Southwestern's Robertson Center.

Needing a win to keep a No. 3 seed for the conference tournament in play, the Bulldogs held Southwestern to 36.8 percent shooting overall and 25 percent from the three-point line in the conference road win.

TLU improved to 14-11 overall and to 10-4 in the SCAC. Southwestern, the defending conference tournament champion and tri-regular season champ (along with TLU and Trinity) in 2014-15, dropped to 8-17 overall and 5-9 in the SCAC.

Taylor Dydalewicz scored 16 to pace the Bulldogs. The senior forward hit six of her 11 shots and all three of her free throws. She added three rebounds, an assist, a block and a steal.

Savannah Hight recorded 12 points, eight rebounds and three steals for TLU. Hight only took five shots, but made four of them. She was 4-for-5 at the free throw line.

Adelaide Wenzel scored 10, and Kristen Lye tallied nine points and 10 rebounds.

TLU limited Southwestern to nine free throw attempts. The Pirates made five. TLU went to the line 27 times and made 20.

The Bulldogs must wait for Saturday results to know if the team has a No. 3 seed or No. 4 seed for next weekend's SCAC Championship tournament in Shreveport, La. Centenary College will host the women and men's tournaments at the Gold Dome next Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
