LONGVIEW, Texas -- Texas Lutheran senior right-hander Lincoln Baylor struck out nine and carried a shutout into the ninth inning to lead the Bulldogs to a 6-0 season-opening road victory over LeTourneau University.

At LeTourneau's Conrad-Vernon Field, Baylor (1-0) pitched 8-1/3 innings before giving way to Stephen Greenlees, who retired the final two YellowJackets.

LeTourneau dropped to 1-3 with the non-conference loss.

Baylor and LeTourneau starter Jordan Carns were locked in a pitching duel through six innings. Neither team scored in the first five innings, and the Bulldogs finally scratched across a pair of runs in the sixth on an inning prolonged by a dropped foul ball.

Against Carns, Rayce Gatlin singled home Keaton Bohrmann and Riley Schaefer in the sixth to put the Bulldogs in front. Carns left after six innings. He struck out seven and did not allow an earned run.

Schaefer would go on to score a grand total of three runs. He reached base five times with three hit-by-pitch, a walk and a single. He also stole a base.

TLU added three runs in the eighth inning. Eric Rabinowitz singled home a run, and Colby Schrade and Alejandro Gutierrez each drove in runs after each was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

The Bulldogs scored an insurance run in the ninth with another RBI single from Rabinowitz, the sophomore shortstop.

TLU plays two games Saturday, at 1 p.m. and at 4 p.m., in the University of Texas at Tyler Clements Fluid Classic. The Bulldogs play Birmingham-Southern first, at UT Tyler's Irwin Field. Then, the Bulldogs face the host Patriots, also at Irwin Field.
