SHERMAN, Texas -- Austin College moved a game in front of Texas Lutheran for second place in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball standings with a 73-66 victory over the Bulldogs.
Saturday in Austin's Hughey Gymnasium, the Kangaroos hit 10 three-pointers and survived being out-rebounded by 13. The Bulldogs held an 18-7 edge on the offensive glass, and it translated into nine more total shots.
Austin College made 10 of its 21 three-point attempts. Katie Gowdy hit all five of her long-range attempts and finished with a team-high 19.
Savannah Hight led TLU with 24. The junior forward went 10-for-17 from the floor and 2-for-5 from the arc.
Kristen Lye added eight points and 12 rebounds.
The Bulldogs committed 24 turnovers. Austin College had 20.
Austin College improved to 16-7 overall and to 10-3 in the SCAC.
TLU dropped to 13-11 overall and to 9-4 in the SCAC.
With one regular-season game left to play, the Bulldogs sit in a tie with Schreiner for third-place in the SCAC.
TLU can either be the No. 3 seed or the No. 4 seed. The Bulldogs cannot catch Austin College for the second seed since Austin swept the season series.
TLU travels to Georgetown next Friday for the regular season finale with Southwestern. Schreiner hosts Trinity in Kerrville, Texas on Saturday.
