LONGVIEW, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Men's Basketball suffered a second loss at the LeTourneau Holiday Classic with an 89-84 road setback Friday to host LeTourneau University.
TLU fell to 6-5 overall with the non-conference loss. LeTourneau improved to 8-4.
The Bulldogs went 0-2 at the LETU Holiday Classic. TLU lost 75-63 to East Texas Baptist on Thursday in Longview.
TLU had a nine-point lead early in the second half, after a pair of
Blake Ray free throws, but could not halt the YellowJackets' second-half rally.
Alec Colhoff and Caylab Herrera hit back-to-back three-pointers to bring LeTourneau within three with 13:55 to play.
TLU led by five with 4:24 remaining following two
Jordan Kouremetis free throws.
LeTourneau out-scored TLU 15-5 over the final 3:07.
The Bulldogs still held an 81-77 lead with 1:23 to play, but LeTourneau used a 10-0 run in the final 90 seconds to secure the win.
Colhoff led the YellowJackets with 17 points. He added six rebounds, two assists and two steals. Jeff Martin and Christian Seidl each scored 15.
Colhoff, Martin and Seidl went a combined 19-for-19 from the free throw line. As a team, LeTourneau made 29 of its 31 free throws.
Senior forward
Zach Behr paced the Bulldogs with 23 points and 10 rebounds. He added three steals and three assists.
TLU point guard
Sterling Holmes added 10 points, five rebounds and three assists. Bulldog forward
Blake Ray scored 11 and grabbed three rebounds.
Matthew Gillette and Kouremetis added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
TLU's next contest is its first Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game of the year. The Bulldogs fly to Colorado Springs, Colo. for a 7:30 p.m. MST (8:30 p.m. CST) contest on Jan. 6 with Colorado College.
