Behr nets game-winning three as Bulldogs rally for 66-65 win over HSU

SEGUIN, Texas -- Zach Behr hit a game-winning three-pointer with 12.01 seconds to play to lift the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs to a 66-65 home win over Hardin-Simmons, Monday night in TLU's Memorial Gymnasium.

TLU swept the season series from Hardin-Simmons, the team that knocked the Bulldogs out of the NCAA Division III playoffs (first round) a season ago.

The Bulldogs (5-3) led for only 3:56 of the entire game but found a way against the Cowboys (6-4) in the non-conference game.

HSU went 6-for-11 from the three-point line in the first half but went 0-for-10 in the second half.

TLU hit just one of its nine first-half three-point attempts but connected on 6-of-9 in the second half.

Jordan Kouremetis (San Antonio/O'Connor) and Behr (Temple/Temple) each hit three-pointers in the last 30 seconds to propel the Bulldogs.

The Kouremetis three tied the game at 63. After Nathaniel Jack gave HSU a two-point lead with 16 seconds to play, Behr took a pass from Sterling Holmes (San Antonio/Antonian) and drilled the long-range shot.

HSU had a couple of chances in the final seconds, by both Jack and Justin Jones, but the horn sounded before the Cowboys could get off a third shot.

Behr scored a team-high 21 for the Bulldogs. He scored 19 of his 21 in the second half. Kouremetis added 15 (11 in the second half).

Holmes, TLU's preseason All-American, returned from injury and played in his first game since Nov. 25. Holmes contributed four points, four rebounds and five assists.

Jack led HSU with 26 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Jones flirted with a triple-double, notching 12 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists. He also blocked two shots.

TLU shot 51.7 percent in the second half and held HSU to 43.3 percent.

The Bulldogs return to action Tuesday afternoon with the second game of a TLU-McMurry doubleheader. The women's game begins at 3 p.m., and the men's game starts at 5 p.m.

TLU will have live video and live stats for both games on tlubulldogs.com.
